What can I expect from TCDP?


How does your on-call system work?


Our volunteer doulas work on a 24-hour on-call schedule (12a-12a). Each doula covers one day per month. We do not register clients prior to birth but rather request that you call when you are in need of our services. If we have a doula on call that day, she will answer the phone or return your text/call within 30 minutes of your message. Twin Cities Doula Project cannot guarantee a doula will be available the day you go into labor.  


When do I need to sign up for services?


You do not need to sign up for our services. When you enter into the stages of labor we request that you call our hotline (612-548-1MOM) as you head to the hospital. Texting is also a great option and may yield a quicker answer. 


What do I do when labor starts?


Once labor has started and you are headed toward the hospital/birth center, please call or text our hotline (612-548-1MOM). Our doulas monitor this line 24 hours a day. Please do not hesitate to call even if it is in the middle of the night! Once you've been assigned a room and are desiring support, we will be on our way! We encourage you to stay in contact with your doula through calling or texting. You will be asked to sign our Client Participation Agreement when your doula arrives. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with it.
